Every child, every opportunity to succeed, learn and grow!
Waggrakine Primary School is excited to announce the opening of Mayoo Wanggamahna, our new purpose-built Education Support facility, in 2026. This state-of-the-art centre will provide specialised education for students across the Geraldton region with mild to moderate educational needs.
What is an Education Support Program?
Our Education Support Program offers tailored learning for students who require additional support or adjustments to succeed at school. Each child will receive an Individualised Education Plan developed in consultation with families, teachers, the School Psychologist, and external specialists or therapists where needed.
The program provides:
· Smaller class sizes and a higher staff-to-student ratio
· Experienced teachers and education assistants trained in supporting students with additional needs
· Opportunities for inclusion with mainstream peers through specialist classes, play, assemblies, sports carnivals, and other whole-school activities
Where appropriate, students may gradually transition into mainstream classes as their learning and self-regulation skills develop, with ongoing support and discussion with families.
Enrolment Eligibility
Students may be eligible for enrolment if they have:
· A diagnosed intellectual disability or Global Developmental Delay with an Individual Disability Allocation (IDA, Level 3 or above)
· A diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder with a demonstrated moderate educational need and IDA Level 3 or above
· A moderate mental health disorder or physical disability where needs
cannot be met in a local mainstream school (assessed case by case)
Note: Students do not need to live within Waggrakine’s boundary area to apply. All applications are assessed according to Department of Education procedures in consultation with families and our enrolment triage team, including staff from Waggrakine Primary School and Holland Street School.
Our Inclusive Learning Environment
Mayoo Wanggamahna has been carefully designed to provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning space. Facilities include:
· Five specialised classrooms
· Low-stimulus and sensory rooms
· Outdoor play areas
· Conference and meeting spaces
· Interagency and NDIS therapy rooms
· Staff offices
· Designated pick-up and drop-off points
· Access to School Bus Services (for eligible students)
Family Partnership
We believe in working together with families. Parent meetings will take place each term (or as required) to review student progress, celebrate achievements, and set future goals.
