How to enrol

To enrol at Waggrakine Primary School there are a number of eligibility requirements as detailed below. If you meet the eligibility requirements please email [email protected] for enrolment information.

Enrolment 1
Enrolment 2
Enrolment 3

Local Intake Area

The School Education Act 1999 guarantees a place for every child in the compulsory years of schooling (in 2015 from Pre Primary – Year 6) in their local school. Waggrakine Primary School is designated as a local intake school. The school has places for students in PP-6 who currently reside within the boundaries of our local intake area as have been determined by the Department of Education.  Our boundary is classified as anyone living north of Chapman River.

Parents of children not residing within the local intake are invited to complete an Application for Enrolment for consideration by the Principal. Eligibility for entry will be dependent upon positions available within the school. Currently the school is beyond capacity, with four transportable classrooms now in place in addition to fixed buildings.

While the School Education Act 1999 encourages parents to have choice of schooling options, we cannot take out of boundary enrolments due to our significant growth and the need for future classrooms.

New Students

All new students are encouraged to contact the office and make an appointment with the Principal or Deputy who meets with all new families. We like to welcome you to our community and provide you with the opportunity to inform us about your child and their needs. Generally admission takes place the following day so that teachers are prepared to welcome your child into the classroom.

Special Needs

Parents of students with special needs are asked to contact the school as early as possible to discuss these needs to ensure that the most appropriate program is in place to meet the child’s needs. The school is well known for it’s ability to cater to those with special needs.

The school is able to apply for funding for education assistance and teacher support for students who have a diagnosis of the following:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Hearing or sight impairment
  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Severe Medical Condition (this covers a range of conditions, please talk to a member of the admin team for more information)
  • Intellectual Disability

Age and Immunisation Confirmation

A birth certificate or extract of birth or passport and a copy of each student’s immunisation records must accompany the Application for Enrolment. Students will be placed in the year of study corresponding to their age group.

Overseas Students

Students who were born overseas must hold the appropriate visa before applying at the school. For overseas students who are in Australia using an entry visa it is necessary that the office sight the passport and visa of the parent (primary visa holder) and student at the time of Application for Enrolment. The dependants of and holders of some specific visa categories require a tuition payment to be made.

Students with English as a Second Language (ESL) are welcome and catered for through special programs that are designed specifically for the needs of the students. For more details in other languages on enrolling students in a WA public school follow this link OTHER LANGUAGES.

Eligibility for Enrolment in Kindergarten

The school runs a comprehensive Kindergarten induction program, therefore we encourage all parents of Kindy students to enrol your child by June the year prior to them attending to ensure you receive all information mailed about the Kindergarten induction.

Guidelines for acceptance of Kindergarten enrolments are:

  1. Children living in the intake area of the school and have a sibling enrolled at the school for the following year.
  2. Children who live in the intake area of the school but will not have a sibling enrolled at the school for the following year.
  3. Children who live outside the intake area of the school and have a sibling enrolled at the school for the following year.
  4. Children who live outside the intake area of the school but will not have a sibling enrolled at the school for the following year.

Note: If there is more than one child in any of the above categories, priority will be given to children living closest to the school, measured in a straight line from place of residence to the school.

You need to enrol children in school for 2019 if they will be:

  • five years old on or before 30 June 2019 (enrol in Pre Primary)
  • six years old on or before 30 June 2019 (enrol in Year 1)
  • twelve years old on or before 30 June 2019 (enrol in Year 7)
  • changing schools in 2019 or starting school in Western Australia for the first time in 2019.

Although Kindergarten is not a compulsory year of school, children who will be four years old on or before 30 June 2019 can be enrolled in Kindergarten and parents are encouraged to do so.
